WHAT UTHANDO (Love) DOES
Community-Led Transformational Journeys
Uthando (Love) South Africa is a Fair Trade Tourism-certified nonprofit that connects donors to grassroots community projects around Cape Town through philanthropic educational excursions, visiting the people and places doing the work, then channelling support directly to them. Uthando (Love) works across many causes; Sawabona Africa’s partnership focuses specifically on its education and skills-development initiatives, the five projects below.
“It is about giving with love. Creating hope and faith. Hope for a better future, faith in humanity.”
— James Fernie, Uthando (Love) Director

Questions about supporting Uthando (Love)
Specific to this project
Can I direct my gift to one specific initiative, like Abalimi or KMA?
Yes , pick the project you’d like to support from the list above, or choose “General support” and Uthando will allocate your gift to where it is needed most.
Why does Uthando (Love) not have child sponsorship like Bright Start or Help Lesotho?
Uthando (Love) works differently, it is a partnership across five independent community projects rather than one programme with individual children to sponsor. You can still choose exactly which project your support goes toward.
Will I get updates on how my donation was used?
Yes, but not a personalised report, once a year, each partner shares it is programme-wide impact for that year (for example, meals provided by Pebbles, or farmers trained by Abalimi), and we publish this in our annual report. If you wish for a more detailed report, please contact us
How do I pay?
Monthly, or annually, whichever suits you. In Germany we can set up a SEPA Mandate on your account, or your can set up a recurring donation via EFT.
Can I donate directly to Uthando (Love) or to one of the projects in South Africa?
Yes you can. The benefit of donating via Sawabona Africa in Germany is your donation is tax deductable.
Does Sawabona Africa take a percentage of our donation ? And does Uthando (Love) also take an administration fee?
Sawabona Africa does not take an administration fee. The only charge is Bank Fees when we transfer to South Africa. Our agreement with Uthando (Love) allows them to take a 10% administration fee, however to date Uthando (Love) has always sent 100% of your donations to partner charities and always adds a little extra.
“It is just a great pleasure supporting Pebbles and all the other stunning and hearttouching projects. All of you are
making a huge difference and South Africa wouldn´t be like that without you and your ongoing stunning work. I am so
grateful being a small part of this amazing journey. Thanks a million!”
